Choosing a network monitoring solution based on a checklist of desired features is a practical approach to procurement. Yet it’s worth remembering that the return on your investment may be seen in a variety of ways, including improved service (and therefore client retention), cost savings, reduction in effort and – of course – solving current problems.

Boosting internal engagement and communication.

Wesfarmers, one of Australia’s largest retail operators, chose Statseeker to support and monitor their strategic focus on operational excellence and satisfying customer needs.

The organization had been using separate network monitoring solutions across different divisions and needed to address a significant growth in network use, competitive pressures and a requirement to contain CAPEX and OPEX expenditure.

Choosing Statseeker meant that there could now be a single network monitoring solution for the entire Wesfarmers network, covering multiple business units and more than 1,000 widely-spread locations. And as well as meeting the original objectives, the single solution deployment resulted in improved engagement and cross-communication across the organization, while still providing the operational segregation that each independent business unit needs.

Saving $30 million on hardware costs.

California State University (CSU) is one of the largest universities in the nation with 23 university campuses, over 47,000 faculty and staff and more than 440,000 students. Over the years, the University had grown tremendously, as had its network requirements, with the rapid addition of extra locations requiring greater bandwidth and increased uptime.

CSU was drawn to Statseeker for its excellent ‘out of the box’ value, with quick deployment, fast polling and cost-effective scalability. They used it to create a full asset and device inventory, identifying ports which had not pushed any data packets for more than six months, and enabling them to swiftly make informed decommissioning decisions that would save them a considerable amount of money.

By reducing ethernet ports to reflect usage and eliminating 2,500 switches, CSU would save about $30 million over five years on hardware purchasing, staging and installation costs – with savings on electricity and heating in addition to that figure.

Monitoring thousands of fixed and mobile devices.

“Statseeker offers a robust alternative to other more mass market solutions… it is lightning fast, scales exceptionally well and the history is never flattened… no matter how far back we go.”
Verizon

Verizon, one of the world’s largest broadband and telecoms companies, chose Statseeker to monitor the enterprise network of a national department store retailer, across more than 1,000 locations and 200,000 interfaces.

This involves monitoring fixed and mobile devices used in stock control and customer interfaces, enabling the client to optimize the customer experience (including transaction speeds) at point of sale, data security and network uptime.

Reaching the entire network while reducing NetFlow costs.

The Information and Technology Partners (ITP) within Australia’s Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) supports multiple government departments through a centralized corporate service partnership model. They needed a fast, highly scalable, cost-effective network management solution to provide detailed monitoring visibility from the core of their network right to the edges. They also needed to be able to manage performance using thresholds and alerts, so that potential problems could be addressed before they became a major issue.

DAF chose Statseeker for its ease of use, speed of data collection and reporting, and the ability to monitor their entire network infrastructure without cost restrictions – all while delivering a huge cost saving on NetFlow capabilities. Multi-user access for regional site administrators meant that each could have their own customized view to proactively manage and monitor their part of their network.

Saving investigation time, effort and expense.

Lockheed Martin uses Statseeker to interrogate its network, with superb results and outstanding cost savings.

Within just one week of deployment, Statseeker enabled them to configure end-to-end monitoring and uncover the issues that were impacting mission-critical service delivery and contract retention. This would otherwise have been a lengthy process possibly requiring months of investigative effort and considerable expense.
