As new networking hardware comes onto the market, or as hardware manufacturers make new data available from their hardware, Statseeker NPM expands its capabilities through Custom Data Types (CDT). Our CDT process enables us to work closely with our customer base to understand their needs, and to develop and refine Statseeker NPM’s ability to:

  • Monitor the hardware users deploy
  • Collect the data users want
  • Present that data via reports, dashboards and alerts in a format that users can easily and efficiently consume

This process begins by Statseeker NPM interrogating the hardware or system that will be monitored to ascertain what data is available and with what frequency it can be safely polled. This interrogation may be via an SNMP walk of a device, a review of a system’s specifications, or, in some instances, the publicly available API. Once we know what data can be collected, we go back to our clients to get their input on what should be collected, and from there, once collected, how to best present this data.

Once the initial requirements have been met to the customer’s satisfaction, we release the package to the wider Statseeker NPM community. All CDT packages are freely available to Statseeker NPM customers and are promoted within the community through our sales and support channels, our aim being to acquire feedback from a broad range of users. This feedback is then used to improve and refine the package offerings, and then roll the finalized package into our core product in a subsequent release. In this way, Statseeker NPM responds to the changing needs of the community in a targeted and efficient manner.
